
(VIDEO) Miss Universe Swimsuit Competition comes to Grand Bahama

Freeport, Grand Bahama - This is an exciting time for the Islands of the Bahamas, when on August 1st; this country will host the 2009 Miss Universe pageant. Actually, we are the smallest country to host this international event. On August 9th, Grand Bahama Island will welcome all of the contestants, representing 88 countries from around the world, who are participating in this event. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the Grand Bahama Port Authority, will host the Miss Universe contestants in a swimsuit presentation called; "Perfection in Motion." This will take place on the great lawn of the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort amidst other activities during their brief visit.
The contestants will arrive on Grand Bahama Island on Sunday, August 9th to a red carpet welcome experience. They will be greeted by the musical voices of the Grand Bahama youth choir as they sip tropical refreshments. Immediately after arrival, the ladies will enjoy a world-wind tour of our premier facilities and attractions. They will begin by having breakfast at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club, followed by a tour of the Garden of The Groves; and then enjoy local entertainment at the Count Basie Square, Port Lucaya Marketplace. Their visit will culminate with Perfection in Motion, a two-hour swimsuit presentation on the great lawn of the Radisson, Our Lucaya Resort, beginning at 5:00 P.M.
Tickets for the swimsuit presentation are now on sale at Gizmos and Gadgets, in the Compusec building, downtown Freeport, at a cost of $50.00. On the day of the event, tickets will also be available at the Manor House at the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort and the lobby of the reef village at Our Lucaya, formerly known as the Sheraton.
Partnering with the Ministry of Tourism on the event is the Grand Bahama Port Authority. Representing the GBPA at the press conference was Derrick Newbold. Earnestine Moxyz was on hand to represent the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort; Tyrone Fraiser for the Grand Bahama Yacht Club; Lana Smith for the-Garden of The Groves; Karen Bain of Port Lucaya Marketplace; and Kirk Smith of Gizmos & Gadgets.
The Ministry of Tourism has a local sweepstakes component to this event, which includes an opportunity to win a 50 Plasma TV from Furniture Plus and tickets to the Miss Universe events. For those persons traveling to Grand Bahama for this event, they may want to make a weekend of it as Junkanoo Summer Festivals finale is on Saturday, August 8th, where the island's own past and present beauty queens will be on parade on Taino Beach.
